Safety

With cathedral type ceilings, there is always a risk of "nail pops". That is when the drywall texture pops off the head of a nail or screw on the ceiling because the ceiling is fastened directly to the rafters of the roof. If the rafters flex enough due to the weight of workers carrying shingles, then the nails can "pop".

Cars or other large things that need to be used during the day need to be taken out of the garage the morning we start the work or the night before.

Anything fragile that is hanging on the walls or leaning against the walls should be taken down or laid down so they won't fall or fall over from vibrations due to roof work.

Light fixtures need to be secure;  they might fall if they are not properly and securely mounted.  A good example is light globes underneath ceiling fans.  These are often mounted by set screws, which are loosened to remove the glass to change bulbs.  If the set screws are not tight, the glass can fall out and break.

When going in or out of the house, look carefully to determine that no debris is falling in that area.  Feel free to flag down a crew member and indicate that you need "safe passage" out of or into the house.

You will need to move outdoor furniture, BBQ grills, plants, etc. away from the house to keep them safe from falling debris. If there are items that you prefer not to move, just let us know ahead of time so they can be covered.

If you will be away from the house while we are working, please be sure that we have a way to contact you (primary and backup, if possible) with questions if any should arise.

If gutters are being replaced, we will usually leave the old gutters on the house until the roofing work is complete, and then remove the gutters.  While the gutters are off, and before the new gutters are installed, the exposed fascia boards may look odd due to old exposed paint, etc.  If you wish to clean, repair, or paint that fascia before the new gutters go on, just let us know and we will coordinate that with you.
